Pro Tip: A serve with depth and height > a serve with power. It’s much harder to hit a return thats high and outside of your strike zone, than it is to hit a return that’s fast.
Pickle Minute: Decide who to hit your 3rd and 4th shots to
One of the most critical decisions to make prior to a match starting is who you should be targeting with your 3rd and 4th shots. Hitting these shots to the incorrect opponent can cost you matches.
Here's exactly what I do:
Figure out which opponent has a weaker defense. Hit your 3rd and 4th shots to this opponent. Keep in mind that they’re typically more inclined to attack since their defense isn’t as good. So it could be smarter to target the better defender with drops because you know they aren’t going to attack you, even if you leave it a little high.
Key execution points:
Figure out who the weaker defender is.
Target them with the majority of your drops, drives, and 4th shots.
Bonus Tip: The player with a weaker defense is typically the player with a better offense. So hit majority of your 4ths to the them, so they can’t get up to the net.
As promised, improvement in under a minute.
